Rosemary Ahtuangaruak

  • Rosemary Ahtuangaruak is an Inupiaq teacher, activist, and former mayor and community health aide of Nuiqsut, Alaska. She has fought tirelessly for the health and protection of her people and of the Arctic's unparalleled land, seas and life that have sustained her culture for thousands of years. In 2017, Rosemary received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Oberlin College; and the following year, she was recognized as an Arctic Indigenous Scholar by the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS). She is currently working with the Arctic Futures Projects at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks to educate the youth.
